In my opinion, meditation is the single most important thing you can do for your success and happiness in life.
Meditating itself is not religious or philosophical in nature.
You don't have to change your lifestyle or beliefs.
Sometimes people think that meditating is just for Eastern Religions, and that is not the case. Meditation is a way for anyone to get in touch with their true self.
It is a process of going inside to find your true identity so you can present it to the world. Meditation will work for you regardless of your religious beliefs or lack thereof.
Mediation Can Change Your Life
Meditating has changed my life tremendously. It accounts for a significant portion of my Real Estate Investing Success.
One of the best analogies that I have heard compares our soul to the ocean (if you don't like the word soul, feel free to use your own, source energy, for example).
No matter what the surface of the ocean is doing, some days it is rough; others it is calm and smooth.
The water underneath in the depths of the ocean is always present and always doing the same thing. It is not caught up in what is going on at the surface. It just exists in harmony below.
Just as the water in the depths of the ocean remains calm, so does your soul or your source. It doesn't get caught up in the rapid current of the mind thinking this thought one minute and the opposite the next.
It's never ending chain of thoughts run on and on, jumping from one subject to the next, fantasizing about the future and fretting over the past.
Continuously playing the movie of our lives on our mental screen, people coast through the present, barely realizing the present even exists, yet the present is all that does exist.
Meditation helps us cut through the thick fog that keeps us from experiencing the present that keeps us from experiencing true life.
Meditation helps us detach from the movie and realize that we are missing the real thing!
What we must all realize is that the past happened in the present, the future will happen in the present, the present is all there really is. There is nothing other than now.
We need to focus our attention on the present so we can be the creative beings that we are.
If we are walking around in the haze of replaying our past and fantasizing about our future, then how much of our focus and attention do we really have to devote to now, the present, where we actually live out our human experience?
How to Meditate
A simple way to introduce meditation into your life is to take 10 minutes.
- Set the timer on your phone with a chime that is subtle, not abrasive.
- Close your eyes and simply observe your breath.
- When you notice that your thoughts are wandering, then gently place your attention back on your breath.
You simply keep repeating this process. You are very gentle with yourself. This is not something that you can force. Be patient.
It is like a pendulum swinging from your breath gently to thoughts and then gently back to your breath.
Do this for 10 minutes until you feel the urge to sit longer. Increase the time until you get to 30 minutes.
If you do this for 30 minutes twice a day, once in the morning upon awakening and once in the evening before leaving your office, then you will be amazed at how your life changes and realized greater success in your real estate investing.
