Most of us make New Year’s resolutions and most of us quit those resolutions within the first 3 weeks. (At least that’s what the statistics say, and statistics are never wrong).
However, I want to tell you about one single resolution which I believe could have more impact on your success than anything else you do in 2011. I’ve been personally doing it for years, and while it’s not easy, it’s put a ton of money into my bank account.
What am I referring to?
Well, don’t let the simplicity fool you. I’m talking about walking up an hour early and using that hour for your most important tasks of the day. For years I heard successful people mention this, but I never tried it myself. Finally, one day I started doing it and I immediately saw the results.
Personally, I wake up at 5am every day. When I get up I turn on my computer and do my most important real estate tasks of the day, which is usually some type of marketing. I don’t check my email, I don’t get on Facebook or any of those social sites. I don’t make telephone calls or do anything else. I work intensely for the full hour.
At about 6:05 I quit working, I go for a 2.5 mile run and my “real” day starts at 7:30. However, I know that if I do nothing else that day I still accomplished my most important tasks of the day in that first hour.
If you’re like me, you’ve had those days where all you seemed to do was put out fires and you felt like nothing got accomplished. I hated those days and felt they were wasted. I don’t have that feeling anymore because I’ve gotten in a solid hour of work from 5-6.
If you happen to be a part time real estate investor…
Which is how most of us start out, this is the #1 way to ensure that you’ll eventually be able to quit your job one day and become a full time investor.
I realize that an hour a day at the very beginning doesn’t sound like much, and I didn’t think it was either, until I started doing it myself. But you’ll be amazed at how much more productive your life becomes.
I also realize that you’ll have to sacrifice a little bit to get up an hour earlier each day. However, in my opinion, if a person isn’t willing to get up an hour early each day then they don’t deserve to become a successful investor who gets to spend their time how they wish.
So instead of making a bunch of silly resolutions which you won’t follow, try making just one this year. If you do, it could be your most productive year ever.
